Day 355

It's been a pretty good day. Im enjoying working with Adam, the head barista where I work. I am learning more, and like getting to know the weekday regulars. However, Im obviously not going to do this long term. I've been thinking about the time frame in which I will be finishing my degree, and the jobs I could be doing that would look better on my resume. This job has been great for while I am a student, and fulfills a bit of a fantasy of mine, because I love coffee and espresso so much. These skills are fun to learn, but my free pouring skills won't get me a seat on the boat, if you know what I mean...not like Id want a seat on it anyway. I don't even know what Im talking about anymore. Let me know if you have a clue.
I am getting a bit apprehensive about being finished this blog. I even thought to myself the other day, "Self, maybe you could do this for another year," Well, even if I continue blogging, it won't be on a daily basis. Can you imagine this for another year? You think the quality is bad now? Wow would it get bad. Anyway, Im thinking something photography related...like a project that forces me to pick up my camera. Also, I've mentioned this before but Id like to write a blog that has something specific to offer people, not just a daily diary like this one has been most of the time.
Im heading to sleep now. If there are words out of place blame my phone. I've been trying to fix it but I may have missed the odd word. Auto correct/predictive text doesn't always work properly.

Day 199 - Photo Friday

See what I did there? Eh? Eh? Eh? Because the Ph in photo sounds like the F in Friday? Yeah, okay. Just making sure.

Here are a few photos from our trip to B.C. I'll probably post more later.

This my friend Neil. I came up to him pretty quickly, and this is the face me made. I thought it looked pretty good in black and white and with pretty high contrast. We were on the ferry in the way to Vancouver island at the time.

While on the island, we found a beach where for most of the time there we sat on a piece of driftwood and stared at the ocean. This is a piece of the drift wood. I realize the ocean looks pretty crooked. It sort of gives me the sensation that the ocean is being tilted like a giant bathtub and is being drained or something. It's probably just bad technique.

This is Bill, our tour guide at the Kimberly mine site. We weren't super deep underground, but we were underground. This particular room is the refuge room, where the miners would go if the air was unsafe, or if something dangerous threatened the miners safety. Bill was a great tour guide, because he actually worked in those mines for around 30 years.

My beautiful wife at one of the golf courses just outside of Cranbrook. We played in teams of 4, with Texas Scramble rules. That was important to me, because I really suck at golf, and we needed to take the best shot. My wife will admit that she isn't the greatest golfer either, but she hits it straight as an arrow every single time off the tee. It's pretty amazing.

Day 134

Sometimes I start writing something, then erase, then start something new. Sometimes I just stare at the screen, hoping for something to come to mind. Sometimes I can't wait to share something with you. Sometimes I want to share stuff, but don't think it's the right time, or appropriate. That's when I just tell you about my day. That's a little insight into how I decide my topics. Disappointing, I know. Sorry.

I need to thank everyone who has approached me about doing photos for them. It has been an encouragement for me. I'm excited, yet nervous about the new opportunities. I'm also excited about the idea that this could go somewhere. I don't know where, but somewhere.

Speaking of photography, I'll leave you with a shot from when my dad and I spend a few hours together at The Man Show at Sask Place. If you can guess what kind of bike the photo is of, I'll give you a virtual pat on the back. Thanks for reading! Take care!

Day 126 - New mom and dad

Here are a couple more photos from the baby shoot I did a little while ago. I really enjoyed it, but as I mentioned in a previous post, after I was finished and driving away, I thought of many other ideas I could have tried. Next time.

I'm going to put myself out there again, just in case someone needs an affordable alternative to a professional photographer. I don't want to make it awkward for my readers by doing this. I will eventually start a website when I get enough of a portfolio together, and I figure out what kind of website I need. That way I won't have to push my product on you when all you're wanting to do is read about what's going on, or any thoughts I have, etc. Honestly, it's not what I want to use this blog for. It's basically the only means I have at the moment. Bear with me!

Day 100

Day 100. Unless I counted wrong, which is perfectly within the realm of my capabilities. I'll just say day 100, and leave it at that. Yay me.

This morning I found myself missing what Elam might have been. I wasn't sure if this made sense. How can I miss a baby that I haven't met? Well, I don't really know, but I do. I loved that baby already, and now I miss him (or her). I know it was only just under 3 months of expecting, but I got pretty excited about the future in those 3 months. I looked forward to October, when I would be able to touch Elam's impossibly soft skin, and kiss and hug him a million times a day.


On a different topic, I've been thinking more and more about putting my photography services out there, if even just in a small way. I guess this would be a start, ha ha. It's my own safe way of saying, if you'd like some photos done, send me a message. The cost would be pretty low, as I'm just new again to the scene. It would be all natural light stuff, and hopefully a very relaxed session. I'll even travel a bit, for some gas money and a small fee. Look at me, lamely trying to do unofficial business with people. Ha ha. Fun stuff. I'll hash out the details as I go for now. It's how I roll.

If you like strobist stuff, with unique lighting, I know a photographer who loves using artificial lighting for his photography, and I think he's also recently decided to market himself more often these days. I won't say his name now, as I haven't asked his permission, but if he wants, he can post a link, or comment and I will post a link to his website. He's a great guy, and loves what he does. I hope he knows I'm talking about him, ha ha. Should be obvious, as I don't know many photographers personally. Then again, I shouldn't assume that it's obvious.

I almost just deleted my self marketing paragraph. NO! I WILL NOT DO IT! I'm good enough to take pictures of your beautiful faces! :)
